Contextual Inquiry: Non-Designers Engage with Design Activity

Research Purpose:

  • Investigate how non-designers engage in design in their everyday lives.

My Role:

  • I worked with another designer in this project.

  • Conducted contextual inquiry and follow-up interview.

  • Collected data, discussed design debrief, summarized design reflection.

Methods Used:

  • Contextual Inquiry, interview, observation.

Strength:

  • By actually emerging ourselves in the participants’ environment, we were able to engage with our participants and understand their design process better.

Limitation:

  • Our presence may affect participants’ responses and behaviors.
